The first semester is over, and most seniors are starting to check out of their high school career. However, this is not the case with senior, Jaret Malleo.

You may have seen Malleo on the golf course, leading the Devil’s den, hosting Mr. Blue Devil, or commentating at our school pep rallies. Now, he’s on a mission to raise $20,000 for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

According to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the mission of LLS is to “cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.” They are focused on making a world free of blood cancers, and now, they need our help to do it.

Malleo accepted the nomination to run the LLS student campaign by Miranda Zoloty, one of his family friends. Unfortunately, Zoloty has had family pass from leukemia. LLS had provided emotional and financial support for her family, which has caused her to want to become involved in this organization to try and make a difference. She has high hopes for Malleo to represent Brunswick.

“Miranda is one of the nicest people I know. When she called me asking me to run this campaign because she thought I was the perfect person for this, I immediately accepted and am hoping to prove her right,” says Malleo.

He needs the entire support of the Brunswick community to help him reach his goal. He decided to name his team, Team Brunswick. He hopes this will get the entire community involved to show how Brunswick rallies together when we need to. His campaign manager, Cameron MacLellan, is excited for this fundraiser to start.

“This seems like a great opportunity to have some fun and raise some money, and when Jaret presented me with the opportunity, I couldn’t decline,” says MacLellan.

Malleo is currently planning fundraisers in the community and here at the school; be on the lookout for flyers and information regarding the fundraisers.

“I know he [Malleo] will enter this competition wholeheartedly with the mission to cure cancer in mind and that is one of the many reasons why I think he is going to rock it,” says Zoloty.

The fundraiser will begin in January and run thru February.
